Hello again

That has to be the most difficult subject yet,
but it was brilliant too.  Takes on a whole new
meaning to PAINT  the bedroom dear !!

See you all soon,
Paul.

Here's my effort for this month -
I've sent it in before I faff about with it anymore.

It wasn't until I'd started painting that I realised quite
how much stuff I'd sketched and, after the first
washes, it seemed to take ages to go back in and
sort out all the detail. Then I was conscious not to
make it too fussy.
I went back and did all the shadows at the end and
I think they look a bit clunky but there are bits of it
that I'm pleased with...
It was a real challenge to work out what to paint first
since there's no working from "back to front" or
"light to dark".  But that, I guess, is why you set
 this piece, you meanie,   Roger!!

Thought this was a strange subject to start with
but in the end really enjoyed it !  Again I tried to
get more positive with colour although still looks
 a little "muddy"

Please may I assure you and everyone else that
although this picture bears a resemblance to our
spare bedroom there is a lot of
artistic licence in it.!!!
 Kind regards

Peter

Loved and hated this one at different times!
Have not attempted anything like this before and
was determined to use stronger colour and
reflection. Quite pleased with the glow affect from
the lamp, but overstretched myself trying to paint
a polished wooden floor!
Used a number of different 'tools' to create effects,
including sponges and a baby bud and used an art
pen to create the ironwork. I'm getting better at
hiding mistakes!
Looking forward to meeting the rest of the 'gang'
at the end of the month.
Regards,

Gwen

Title  - Mirror Image

Another month and another painting. Not the
normal thing I would try but great for using
the imagination. I hope that I have not
deviated too much from the subject.
Enjoyed planning and the focal point
being the mirror.

Title  - Grime

An ink drawing with a watercolour wash with the
mud from the palette from a previous painting.
By the way, it's all from my imagination!

I really enjoyed this one. I used it to practice colour
mixing and lots of shadows. I have not had to think
so hard at the beginning about what was going into
the picture and have used lots of masking fluid which
is new for me (mind you I was disappointed that it
took bits of paper or paint off too when rubbing it off).
There are obviously bits I don't like but there are bits
like the detail in the bear that I was pleased with.
I couldn't get the rabbit to sit on the pillow and rather than ruin him I left it in the end.
Then I lost a paintbrush in the wind as it went down
the gaps in the decking! so much for my first trial at
sitting to paint in the sun.
I am excited to meet everyone soon.
Kind regards
Michelle

This painting has been a long time in the making!
I decided that my focus was going to be on shadows
 - light and shade.  The first sketch was far too busy
to paint in detail so I scrapped that painting and by
this time the sun had disappeared so no shadows.
I have waited for the sun to shine but as we only get
sun in that room for about 1-2 hours a day and the
sun did not oblige my second attempt looks very
plain and frankly..........I did try to visualise the
shadows by studying the sun from another room.
It is interesting how we take shadows for granted.
Do they bend as they travel over objects (I even
placed obstacles on the floor to observe this)?
Well, it can only get better I guess.  I was pleased
with the transparency of the vase though.
Best regards
Chris

You were right when you said that I wouldn’t
normally consider painting this sort of thing, but
then I haven’t painted much yet! However once I
got into it I quite enjoyed letting imagination run.

I had fun painting this and have ended up with a
picture I like!    I did a mixture of painting from imagination, copying pictures of cats and  objects
 from real life.

Having shied away from painting animals
last month I decided to have
a go this month.

 Nicola.

I wanted something whimsical. The mice not so
recognisable,  a new breed of rodent maybe!!!!
Tried to remember the light and shade and the
complementary colours, which just so happen
to  be my favourite.
Can't wait to see other interpretations.

Well, it would be very difficult to pick out anyone in particular. They are full of light and colour plus imagination. Like them all. I have to admit I enjoyed the task but did not end up with quite what I was trying to achieve whatever it was!
Regards,  Geoff.

Really enjoyed looking at the many interpretations of this month's picture as it was a struggle for me, but clearly not
for some of you.  Winners for me this month are Peter and Jean's pictures.
I thought Peter's was very subtle and realistic, I loved the picture within a picture and the detail on the headboard.
With Jean's it was the superb painting of the bedside cabinet and I particularly liked the handling of the folds and
 tucks in the bed linen.
Others worthy of note were the detail in Helen's painting - I particularly liked the wallpaper, must have taken ages!
I also loved Nicola's attempt at the shaft of light and the folds in her valance - very well achieved.   Gwen

Seems to be a male/female divide in our bedroom pictures!
Boys used subdued colours and functional fittings while the girls went for bright colours and appear to see it as
more than just a place to sleep!  What does that tell us?
High points for me this month:-
Nicola's naughty cats (took me a few looks to see the paw-prints, spilt drink etc)
Geoffrey's peeling wallpaper, poorly plant and ironic "Home Sweet Home" plaque.
Gwen's and Jean's lovely bedside cabinets.
Special mentions also to Peter, Paul and Roy for their crisp, clean lines and to Renee for that gorgeous yellow wall.
See some of you very soon - Helen xxx
Having seen everyone else's paintings, I wish that holidays etc had not got in the way of my effort.
There really is so much detail in all of the work.
Looking forward to meeting everyone at Redlands .
And my only other wish is not to be invited to spend the night at Geoff's.
Sorry Geoff no offence but I prefer a little more comfort.
Paul Simpson

I haven't yet made a comment on anyone's work as I have never felt qualified to do so, but what catches me out each
month is how different everyone's pictures are!
The detail in Jean's cabinet is amazing, Helen's whole picture must have taken hours. I loved Peter's picture that is
already on his wall with an even tinier one inside that.  Gwen's bed looks incredibly inviting.
Thanks again Roger for making me have an enjoyable day away from work.
See you soon
Michelle

Again I really looked forward to seeing all your paintings having had a go at it myself.  I loved seeing all your different
ideas.    I especially liked Helen’s bedroom ( so did my daughters even though they are teenagers ) and Peter’s wall
with the mirror, very good, and the picture of his picture.  I also liked Gwen’s light coming from the lamp, very effective.
Nicola
