Title :- Lights across the Bay.
This picture took a lot of trials with coloured
pencils and then masking at differing times.
In the end I thought it was too busy.

Title :- Morning mist at City Point
This Is my attempt at a more simplistic
presentation after spending the early hours
thinking about it instead of sleeping!!

Not very happy with my picture this month, I had
a very busy month with weekends away , which
was nice (but it's aggravated my AS and I think
my back has been in sympathy with Helen, who
I hope is doing well) I just could not get inspired to
paint at all and I ended up rushing, but thought
I would let you see it anyway. Maybe December
will be better. Hoping everyone has a good build
up to Christmas and all of the festivities.

Notes from artist
Bit of a cheat this month - went for minimal
colours
and very simple shapes because I had to do it in
short bursts! Trees are a bit big but I reckon there's
a large, flat park between them and the buildings.
This is yet another one that I'd like to re-visit
because I can see endless possibilities.
Thanks to all for the get-well wishes.
Coming along in leaps and bounds -
though not literally! Helen

I hope it was ok but
I did mine from a photograph.
I needed help with the buildings so thought I would
try painting the Liverpool landscape. I actually enjoyed
doing it – in true light it is ok, although not
sure how the photograph of the painting will turn out
when you put it on site. I have to say I didn’t put all
the detail of the buildings in, just a suggestion
or two and the Liver Birds are a bit of a smudge
on the landscape! It was good fun trying to get
the lighting right on the buildings by using
various hues of grey! Any way thanks.
Best Wishes, Ann

Title :- Town & Water.
Did not find this one easy.
Difficult to get some distance in the scene.
It's all experience.
Now for December.
Best regards,
Geoff..

Title :- Misty night.
A quick sort of impression of the distant
town at night and mist.
Did it in a fraction of the time of the other
one and waited to see what happened!
Good Christmas to you all.

This is for Helen who wanted a
Christmas picture
so I painted one to speed her recovery.
Happy Christmas everyone.
Kind regards

Two pictures in one month,
goodness me that's a
first.
You are very clever with the projects you set us.
Title -Light Pollution
Well, struggled with the idea for ages, however
once I got into the buildings I struggled with how
dark to make the rooms not lit, they would ideally
be black but with that many lights around them I suspected that they
wouldn't be so dark.
The hardest thing of all was the water. I didn't know
whether to approach it with dry on dry (didn't work - that's the right
hand side) or wet on wet and risk losing the colour if the light and
dark mixed. I think vaguely wet worked better as the water on the
wet
is more realistic. I love the fact that you test us
each month Roger, thank you.
Kind regards Michelle

Title - Tokyo Tower - well nearly!
Thank you so much for taking the time to set our monthly
challenges, it certainly gives me the
impetus to paint - and things I would not necessarily
attempt otherwise. I looked at the building on the left
of my 'photo and thought it looked dull but was really pleased with the
painted version.
I enjoyed painting this one although I wasn't
particularly drawn to the subject originally.
Thank you Roger for making us try
different subjects.
Best wishes,
Chris

I found it very interesting (interesting is a
term I use
rather than say it was hard) but I enjoyed it never the
less. As is normal I started to over work it so here
you are. Spent a lot of time studying large buildings
in Bath and Belfast in my travels but I think I should
have taken a camera along as well.
Best wishes for now,
Yours aye, Bob

Renee Hales Notes from artist
As I still need something to copy
from I found in the weekend TV magazine scene of Las Vegas at
night and off I started knowing this was daring for me. Then
what to put at the bottom and found another picture of a view
from a kitchen window, so just put the tiles in.
Not happy with the colour of the
background mountains, in reality looked a lot darker, but too
vibrant on the photo.
Some of my buildings have obviously
been affected by the San Adreas fault line. Later in the
painting realised the way to cheat getting straight lines, use a
ruler and watercolour pencils,
which I did finally use on the 2 buildings at the back.
I did enjoy and knew a stretch,
although the latter days of this week very hard painting in my
kitchen, as our beloved cat of nearly 20 years passed away there
and sitting there was a big reminder, but broke through and now
OK.
He kept me company in spirit. I so enjoy what projects you
give us, Roger, and a big incentive to keep painting
Renee xx

Phil Watts Notes from artist
Here is my November challenge picture.
I was quite pleased with the overall effect but
wanted to put more shadow in under the trees-
but when it came to it I was not confident
enough I would not ruin the picture.
The smaller man was supposed to b leaning
forward but I'm not sure I captured that to well.
Regards Phil

Ian Brookes-Howells Notes from artist
I tried to add some
perspective to skyscrapers but it may not be accurate. I imagined that I
was square on the 10th office block with the sun setting behind with the
light radiant out and the light side being on the right-hand side of the
building on the left and vice versa – not sure if this would be correct? I
liked the idea of adding fairy lights along the path edging the water but
forgot that they would have been reflected in the water.
This is my first painting since my art class; I really enjoyed doing it and
made a lovely relaxing Sunday.
It may not be perfect but I enjoyed doing it and
that is the important thing!

It’s taken me a while
but this is my 1st picture
from your Art Club. The seagulls look a bit large
and I’m not happy with the square buildings
in the background.
Look
forward to attending another one of your
courses with Renee next year!

Hi
All,
I've just come across this
site and thought I would
give you all the link to it.
I think it could prove quite
useful for painting trees
and shrubs etc.
just to get an idea of the shape of a particular tree.
Hope you find it handy.

All worth positive comments
this month. To pick a few in
particular I liked Roy's
great colour, Ann and Ivans
clouds, Michelle for parcel
Christmas imagination, Ian,
Lynne and Helen for good
illuminated night scenes.
How many are going to have a
go at the December task?
Best to complete before the
bubbly comes out!
Geoff
Favourites this month
are;
Both Roy’s very
different
interpretations;
Both Michelle’s (see
above); Helen’s
reflections (hope you’re
getting better);
Christine’s;
Both Geoff’s, with Misty
Night my pick of the
month.
Ann concurs!
Best regards,
Mike Naylor
Sorry, not able to
submit a picture this
month as I have had to
pack away my art
equipment whilst some
major work is being
carried out on our flat.
However, lovely to see
all the other's
submissions - hats off
to Michele this month, 2
imaginative pictures.
Hope Helen and Paul feel
better for Christmas -
best wishes to all for
the festive season
Gwen
Great to see even
more newbies to this
page - welcome one
and all - and don't
mind us - we tease a
bit - but we don't
bite!!
Top of the class for
me - Geoff, again
- for two paintings
which are truly
brill!
Some lovely skies
this month -
particularly in Ian,
Christine and Ann's
paintings.
Bravery awards go to
Roy and Phil - good
figures and diverse
subjects! Renee
gets a commendation
in this class for
her sad
circumstances turned
to positive
thinking.
"Best
Geeky Heron" award
to Paul - love those
delicate bullrushes,
too - hope you're
having a REST this
month...
Michelle -
I actually like your
dry-on-dry
reflections. You
also get my Best in
Show for the
Christmas parcel
city - brilliant,
and just for icka me! Thank you, sweetie!!![&[] gift](http://mail.yimg.com/ok/u/assets/img/emoticons/emo75.gif)
Special mention this
month, though, has
to go to Roger's
snow people sketches
- can't wait to get
going on them. Now
- where's that
masking fluid? Only
joking - I promise
to try not to use
it...
Season's Greetings,
one and all - Helen
xxx
Helen, It's
all right to use
masking fluid to
protect areas of
white paper, it's
the demon white
gouache paint that
you have got to stay
away from.
Roger
What a great lot
of pictures
again,
particularly
Geoff's two and
Michelle's
Parcel City.
Happy Christmas
Everyone.
Roy
Sorry I haven't
been able to do
any paintings
for a while. We
have completely
refitted out our
new boat and
hope to move
into it today !
My daughter is
getting married
on the 17th.
December and
then something
else is
happening......oh
yes its
Christmas ! but
I have found
time to look at
all the lovely
pictures
submitted each
month. Hopefully
I will be back
with you in
January.
Merry Christmas
and a Happy new
Year to you all.

Sorry I just
didn’t get a
second to
paint last
month,
really busy
at work,
lots of
reports to
write, Dad’s
80th
birthday
party, lots
of people
staying, two
teenage
daughters
rehearsing
for
different
shows in the
theatre and
we decorated
the living
room ( so
actually
I’ve done
lots of
painting !) This month the girls have been in the shows, more people
staying,
I’ve only
now got
round to
even finding
time to look
at the art
web site to
see what the
challenge is
! you were
right to
underline
the main
challenge is
finding time
to paint!
Living room
nearly
finished
now,
but more reports to write and then I need to think about Christmas
shopping,
cards etc I
hope I can
find the
time ! Never
painted snow
before !
Well done to
everyone on
all the
wonderful
paintings
last month.
Hope Paul
and Helen
recover
enough to
enjoy
Christmas.
Nicola.
