A reminder of this months sketch.

First thoughts were
"We've done this sort of thing before".
That was obviously the challenge; to come up with
a different interpretation. I nearly gave up when the sunbeams looked
contrived but I'm glad I soldiered
on and I wasn't too disappointed in the end.

Well, better late than never, spent most of the
week brushing of little bits of dried masking fluid,
no idea where it came from.
Enjoyed this subject, I hope my efforts show that
in some way.

Quite pleased
with sky but rest a bit wishy-washy. After the sky, I
left it for quite a few days without any real idea of
what I wanted. Finally got going when Ann was on her
second but still didn’t have a clear idea, not a good
plan!
Best regards,
Mike

Wasn’t very happy
with this first attempt.
Going for an Autumnal brown bracken and
grasses look. Struggled to get a feeling of depth
but quite happy with deer on skyline.
Best regards,
Ann

A bit happier with
this one. Foreground heather
looked too much like hedgehogs at first!
Still struggle with perspective and depth.

Hello All!
My effort this month is a wee bit "same-y"
(for me) for which I apologise.
Meant to do
another one with proper rocks and
things but just ran out of time this month.
If I get around to
it I'll do a better one and send
it to Roger for my gallery page...

Loved this one and used all
sorts of different
techniques, including masking, splattering
and the use of cling film.
Inspiration came from an exercise I saw in a
'Paint' magazine some time ago and have been
meaning to try - this gave me the opportunity
and I'm reasonably happy with the result.

Hello Roger, firstly thank you for Saturday .
It was lovely to meet everyone at last, learnt some
more and had a really nice time. Pity I couldn't make Sunday. Hope we can
do it again next year.
I enjoyed doing this months painting but only just
got it finished in time. Jean

I had this one planned at the beginning of
September but wanted to wait until we had been
together so that I could practice a wall. Ha, I then
did a concrete dam (not that you can tell)
My first attempt at a sunrise I am pleased with, and
the river. I practised sponging with Cyril, but the
words of hubby were that it was 10' tall heather and
the reservoir he didn't know what it was plus the
roads you would fall off, overall a bodged picture!
Still I had fun.

I enjoyed this one but am struggling to get
perspective, my mountains all blend into one,
any tips for painting snow please?
I did sketch a dog in my outline sketch but it
wouldn't behave so I left it out.
Also my lake and snow seem to merge at one level
but I was aiming for more perspective again.

Notes from artist
I've often
wanted to paint a mountain scene, but
never have had much success.
I found it difficult to create the effect and look I
wanted this month. On the left I was trying to paint layered rocks
you often see in mountains, but I think
it looks more like a wall. I thought the whole picture
looked a bit dark, so I tried another using lighter colours and a sun set
sky which didn't work at all!
I feel the painting is missing something but not sure
what! I'm looking forward to seeing other people's
paintings. Any tips welcome!
Nicola.

Title - Spring/Summer time.
Found my colour shades brighter but too many
and feeling didn't blend in so well with each other.
Putting in the fallen tree and little shed was an
attempt to add something different from the
landscape. Not so happy with the stones.

Found the shades of colour more easier on
this
and pleased with my path.
Overall this was easier than last month.
I've been drawing and sketching more and
holding a paint brush is more fluid and relaxing.

Phil Watts Notes from artist
Well here goes. This is my first attempt at
Roger's monthly challenge.
Having seen the superb standard of previous
months I hesitated about submitting this picture.
I found it really hard to get the perspective
depth of field right - I struggled with the
distant mountain vs the near hills and tried to
be far too clever with colours.
Made loads of mistakes and almost scrapped
the whole thing at one stage. However I really
enjoyed the challenge and remain
determined to improve.
Practice makes perfect - as they say.

Hi all,
What a great weekend, thanks ROGER
FOR ORGANISING, are we all really
that mad. Was great to met every one
and swap idea's. Hope we can all
keep in touch, you can all see my
email addy and I'm also on face
book.
Helen what are those splodges on my
painting. Must cover it up better
when you are painting near by.
Joking apart
some great works turned
out and Roy must show me how he
paints so fast then I might get more
painting done.
Ivan
Dear Roger,
We hope you and the attendees had a
great time at the Club event, last
weekend.
Ann and Mike Naylor
Sorry you've had so many
problems with your server Roger.
Once again, it was such a
pleasure meeting up with so many
of you last weekend, and I'm
already looking forward to the
next time.
The art just keeps getting
betterer and betterer ,
.
So Glad you didn't give up on
your picture Roy, it worked out
really well. And Helen you might
say 'samey', but that looks like
a very strong painting to me,
even if you did use a gallon or
so of masking fluid.
Loved Gwen and Geoff's snowy
mountains, they look so cold but
very inviting.
Jean your Stag has made mine
look like a donkey with horns,
but you have made me more
determined to practice painting
animals.
And Phil, never be worried about
sending in your paintings.
ciao for now.
Paul
Wow!
What a wonderful range of
pictures, I loved Roy's
glistening rocks and I want to
know how Phil and Paul did their
trees and grasses to get the
fine lines?
Gwen, Helen and Jean you are
amazing! Mind you
Helen, I did recognise the wall
and am hoping in a couple of
weeks that hubby buys me a
pallet knife too to have a play.
Nicola, I feel the same about
mine that it lacks a car on
mine, perhaps yours is that wee
animal of some description
but I love your grass.
I am still amazed at how
different everyone's
interpretation is.
Kind regards
Michelle
Once again we've shown what
a diverse bunch we are.
Loving Roy's rocks and
Jean's stag.
Played "Where's Wally?" with
Renee's but I still can't
see a little shed
- but I do
like the trees in your
second attempt.
Michelle - I could tell it
was a dam (even thought
there's not a lot of water
behind it!) and Nicola
(hoping you really do want
advice) I like
the rock-wall on the left 'cos
it's a bit like Malham Cove
but it looks like you ran
out of steam on the ones on
right - and your lake
is a icky
bit too blue considering the cloudy sky.
First prize from me this
month is shared by Gwen's
Christmas Card and Phil's
purple dream - both
super-dooper for obvious but
different reasons.
PS. 'Mister' Simpson - I
only used a bit of masking
fluid on the skyline and
winged it with the peaks (so
there!) - and I reckon your
donkey looks a bit
stag-like, ha-di-ha!
Hugs to All - Looking
forward to seeing
your stile style... Helen xx
Looks like you all had a
good time at the
get-together. Sorry we
weren’t there.
Interesting to see the
variety and how many
interpreted the
foreground feature as
river or path. Ann and I
both went for path.
This month my favourites
were;
Roy’s, especially the
fissured rock face;
Helen’s. Yes, similar to
previous but I like it;
Phil’s for its bold
colours and I note it
was painted at exactly
the same time of day as
mine and about 20 mins.
before Michelle’s;
Geoff’s. Both great
winter scenes;
Jean’s. Star of show
with your magnificent
“Monarch”.
Best regards,
Mike Naylor
Wow, what a lot of
lovely paintings.
It’s always amazing
at how different all
our paintings look,
I’m enjoying being
part of this art
club, even though I
do feel the beginner
amongst you. Phil
I know how you feel
about hesitating to
send in your first
painting, I felt the
same three months
ago when I sent in
my first one. I’m
so glad you did
though as I love
your picture, keep
them coming. I also
liked Geoffrey’s,
Paul’s and Gwen’s
snow scene, and
Jean’s stag. Helen
your picture didn’t
look ‘samey’ to me
but really eye
catching, dramatic
and I liked it a
lot. Roy I loved
the effect you
created especially
the rocky mountain
behind the lake.
Nicola.
Had a job to get this
months pictures as it
kept coming up with last
months pages until I
selected "Refresh".
Thanks to all of you at
the weekend session. And
no, I haven't finished
the homework yet.
I loved Jeans stag. I
thought that
inspirational, and
Geoffrey's cold morning
sent a shiver down my
spine. Loved it!
Roy
Hello everyone.
Firstly great to meet
some of you at the
recent 'gathering' and
put names to faces and
art work,
sorry we couldn't stay
for day two, it would
seem you had great fun!
This month's submissions
are really good, for me
the following merit
comment: -
Roy's crisp clear
colours and lines,
Paul's sky in his first
picture (you are very
brave with colour).
I like the detail in
Mike's picture, as
always - and Mike I
never have a plan! Love
the drama in Helen's
picture and the
ice effect and shadowing in Geoffrey's. Michelle,
your sunset is fab and
is inspiring me to have
a go.
Renee I really like your 'loose' foreground foliage work, and finally
hello to Phil and his
fab trees!
Best in show for me has
to be Jean's picture, I
love everything about it
- just needs the bottle
of whisky to go with it!
Regards to all.
Gwen
Hello Everyone,
I very much enjoyed
looking at all the
mountain scenes, there
were so many submissions
this month and they all
worked so well.
I am always impressed by peoples imaginations and interpretations
following the basic
scene that Roger sets us
all.
I also enjoyed having a
nose at the photos from
the recent get together.
Nice to put faces with
names, good looking lot!
Hopefully I will be able
to make it next year..
Geoff.
Art
club note to anyone who
was at the "get
together" and wants to
show their work on this
site.
Please send
in your work a.s.a.p. so
that I can get it up on
the web pages before
submissions come in for
the monthly challenges.
