Help on sending images by e-mail.

Pictures with very large files will not get through to us via e-mail.
They clog up the system and have to be deleted before reaching us.

(My Digital camera takes pictures about 1200 x 1600 pixels Jpeg with file sizes of about 1220k)
Scanners can produce pictures with far greater file sizes.
If you are using a scanner, it might be a good idea to first put the scanned picture in your photo files,
so that you can see its file size and change it, if required.

Tip........Print this page before starting. !!!!

Before sending your image to us :-

1. Check your image properties.  i.e. size and dimensions etc.
Right click mouse over the picture.
In the box that opens, Left click ‘properties’
Then click on the ‘Image properties’ tag within the box that opens.
This should show you the file size of your picture.
(This needs to be under 400k before you send it to us.)
It may also show you the resolution.
(This needs to be about 150 pixels/dots per inch.)

  2. Change image properties. (If required)
Open the program that stores and shows your pictures.
(What you do next will depend on the program you are using to store your pictures on.)
Open the picture you wish to send.
If  you cannot see the toolbar when your picture is open, then close the picture again,
and then just highlight the pictures thumbnail by clicking on it once.
In the toolbar, click on the word ‘Image’ or if image isn’t there click ‘edit’.
From either of the drop down menus you are looking for the ‘resize’ command.
Click ‘Resize’
(This should show a printed size and an image size.)
(On the image size, first make sure that the ‘Preserve Aspect Ratio’ box is ticked.)
Then click in the height box and change the figure to 513 pixels.
(The width box should automatically change to keep the picture correct.)
Click ‘O.K.’
The picture will probably appear to reduce in size.
Click 'File' in the toolbar and from the drop down menu click 'Save'
This is then ideal for sending via e-mail and will download and get processed quicker at this end.
Note down what file your picture is in and what name you saved it as, so you can find it again.

3. Now send the picture to us via e-mail.
Click on our e-mail link in the left menu panel.
Put the required title in the Subject line and  information asked for in the body.
It is better at this point to open up the e-mail box to the full window as this shows a fuller range of icons in the toolbar at the top.
(By clicking the maximize button that looks like a square, in the top right corner of the e-mail box.)
Then click on the attachment button. (This looks like a paper clip symbol)
From the 'pop up box, search for the picture that you want to send and double click on it.)
If all has gone well, the box should close and you see a new line underneath your subject line
in your e-mail, called Attachment.
On that line should be your picture file.
All you have to do now is check you have given all the information required and press the send button.
Good luck.
